Subject: Linac4->Linac2 reversion options

Hello Maurizio,

If we take the double line PFN option then reverting to Linac2 configuration would take a maximum of three weeks.

If this option is not taken then we would be required to re-install the original BI.DIS PFNs at a time cost of two months. There is a complication in that this equipment is in need of consolidation to the cost of 600kCHF which would only begin once the decision to revert had been taken. Hence the 'old' PFN would be re-installed and then long-lead consolidation components would be ordered for installation at the next shutdown opportunity.

Cheers,

Tony

Maurizio,

Our Linac4 to linac2 backwards compatibility costing is as follows:

BISMV: 0.2 FTE + 12.5kchf (plus requirement that the new power supply can deal with both the old and new device)

BISMH: 0.3 FTE + 12.5kchf (after injection area is liberated, plus requirement that the old power supply needs to be set-up somewhere else and connected)

BI.BS Removal and BI.KSW Re-installation: 0.4 FTE + 30 kchf

BIDIS-magnet: backwards compatible.
BI.DIS-Powering: 0.4 FTE + 60kchf

Dear Maurizio,

Please find below a resume of our cost estimates.

Cost estimates [kchf]
                2007  2008  2009  2010  2011  Total
BT-TL     60      176    162    88                 486
BT-SE     200    750    700    400               2050
BT-KPS  100    1000  3250  3250  220     7820

Total        360    1926  4112  3738  220     10356

This does not include a two line parallel PFN which will allow easy Linac2 reversion to 25ohms at an additional cost of 300kCHF. If this option is not taken then an additional 600kCHF and two months intervention will be required for re-establishing the PFNs for Linac2 injection.

Greetings, Wim
