Agenda: Status review highlighting issues and unsolved problems.
BI.DIS The 1st batch of ferrites have been
delivered. This concerns the standard blocks, delivery of the special blocks
for the magnets ends is expected week 43. Furthermore, the price enquiry for
the vacuum tanks has been launched and the coil design has been completed
with the 1st coil been delivered. The design of the feedthrough is still
in progress.
Concerning the PFN equipment, TF has negotiated reserved pace in the PSB
equipment room with Sven de Man. WW will check if this is taken into account
in the overall LINAC4 space allocation. Design of the PFN system will start
as soon as the allowed ripple is specified (action BG). All other parameters
for the PFN are specified.
BI.SMV The conceptual design has started with investigations towards the possibilities of a curved or bended yoke. To start a more detailed design, the beam trajectories need to be confirmed and optimized (action WW). Loading assumptions for the beam dumps in the PSB injection region have been made and are specified in EDMS document 963395. An initial estimate of the head and tail dump size is required in order to start the design of the BI.SMV vacuum tank.
Injection Region A recent Presentation by M. Aiba has indentified perturbations of the lattice due to the injection chicane (see minutes of the PSB Beam Dynamics working group meeting on 24th September). In order to avoid (reduce) this effect, the following options should be considered:
The use of sector bends or combined function dipoles is suggested but these might cause strong orbit distortions.
Increased length of the BI.BS chicane magnets to reduce the vertical focusing.
Reduction the BS deflection angles.
BB mentioned a further possibilitie of reducing the angle of the injected beam, this could be achieved by making the BS1 an opposite field septum. WW proposed to investigate the influence of the magnet length and injected beam angle on the injection straight layout.
