Meeting on Linac4 - PSB BI Line, 06-November-2006

- BG reported on the status of the studies made concerning the matching of the optics at the injection point, for which α ≠ 0 for the moment. KH mentioned that some independently powered quadrupoles will be required to optimize matching of α and β.

- GB mentioned that the requested offset of the beam of ~5mm, as presented by WW (Presentation L4 meeting 3, Page 4) is in contradiction with a previous presentation of KH (Presentation SPL Meeting 78, Page 4). The required offset will put constrains on DVT30, QNO30 and QNO40. WW proposal is based on literature, KH proposal is based on discussions. KH will contact an expert for clarifications.

- FG requested for and cost / time estimate to have a backwards compatible system for 50MeV proton injection from LINAC2

- An estimate of the required floor-space is required to see if the current , to be decommissioned, pace will be sufficient for the LINAC4 BI equipment.

- BG mentioned that the required fall times for the KSW, 10-100 ,(to be investigated if 30-100µs is possible), need to be adjustable. It needs to be seen if this can be program related or direct adjustable. The fall times for the BS kickers will be ~40µs, exponential fall, for CNGS beam. LHC beam is less critical.

- TF reported that first BS kicker calculations show that it is feasible, but a specification for the required fringe field in the painting area is required. For the moment ~1% is assumed.

- It was decided that a AB-note will be written on the PSB BI line contribution including all studied details left out of the LINAC4 TDR.

- WW asked if one could look into the duration or elimination of the Head and Tail of the LINAC4 pulse in order to minimize irradiation of the SMV internal dumps. Irradiation impact studies are also urgently required.
