Meeting on Linac4 - PSB BI Line, 22-February-2010
Present: L. Sermeus, C. Bracco, F. Roncarolo, U. Raich,
B. Goddard, M. Hourican, J. Borburgh, R. Chamizo.
- Follow up previous meetings
It was mentioned that the specification for the H0/H- injection
beam dump is being prepared to be send out for approval. This will be done
simultaneously with the specification for the measurement of the beam
current at the PSB H0/H- injection beam dump, to be discussed during this meeting.
- Measurement of beam current at the PSB H0/H- injection beam Dump
BG presented a proposal for the specification for
measurement of the beam current at the H0/H1 dump. Since electrical
insulation of dump block seems to be difficult due to dump heating issue,
thermal contact, etc. the use of a ‘Faraday cup’ principle to measure the
stripped electrons is proposed. The performance specification and design
requirements were discussed and will be documented in an engineering
specification, which will circulate for comments shortly.
- BS chicane magnet options; discussion of technical feasibility
of 0.5 ms and 5ms decay times
BB presented further simulations results of the
dump impact
on the BS4 field for fast decay under vacuum magnets and slow decay
outside vacuum magnet. The influence of a single, not segmented, graphite
block was presented and the results were ~4 times higher (5*104- T
not segmented, 1.6*10-4 T segmented). It was proposed to study
the influence of the variation of the conductivity of graphite and the
calculate the values of the multi-poles in the magnetic field.
- Preliminary results on H0 Dump simulations
RC presented preliminary results of the H0 dump simulations. The
thermal simulations showed a temperature increase of the dump block of ~30
degrees in case a water-cooled heat sink is attached to the end of the dump
block. The feasibility of such a design was discussed and it was mentioned
that the required vacuum in that region shall be in the (dynamic) range of
10-8.
- AOB
It was proposed to discuss the specification of the BTV screen in
the stripping foil region during next meeting.
