Meeting on Linac4 - PSB BI Line, 15-February-2010
Present: L. Sermeus, C. Bracco, C. Carli, R. Noulibos, B. Goddard,
M. Hourican, J. Borburgh, R. Chamizo, M. Eshraqi
- Follow up previous meetings
It was mentioned that the specification for the H0/H- injection
beam dump is being prepared to be send out for approval. This will be done
simultaneously with the specification for the measurement of the beam
current at the PSB H0/H- injection beam dump, to be discussed during our
next meeting.
- BI.SMV design specifications
WW presented the current status
of the BI.SMV design specifications. For the yoke apertures the
specified beam size at 160 MeV, Dispersion -1.4 ± 0.4% and 0.44% momentum
shift was used. ME will verify these values and present the results during
our meeting in 2 weeks time.
MH presented the
Progress on the BI.SMV magnet design. A Curved magnet yoke has been
assembled and verified and the alignment of the laminations was found to be
good and this type of yoke could be used to house a curved coil. It is
proposed to house the new BI.SMV inside a circular tank. RC mentioned that
the head and tail dump will be about 150mm long and it was proposed that she
will present the preliminary results on H0 dump simulations during our next
meeting.
- BS chicane magnet options; discussion of technical feasibility
of 0.5 ms and 5ms decay times
JB presented the first simulations results of the
dump impact
on the BS4 field for fast decay under vacuum magnets and slow decay
outside vacuum magnet. For the simulations a segmented dump was used and the
results show that perturbation of the field in the gap is acceptable for
both versions. The preliminary conclusion is that both versions could be
envisaged and that mechanical/integration preferences will guide the final
choice. The study of the influence of a single, not segmented, graphite
block is ongoing and the results will be presented during our next meeting.
